One of graphic design's most influential players, David Carson, will present a retrospective of 26 of his
favorite works in KLDW09. Carson is a designer who wears many hats, he graduated with a degree in
Sociology, and was formerly a professional surfer. In his career as a designer, Carson has worked as an art
director for the magazine Ray Gun, and his first book, End of Print is the best selling design book of all time,
with over 200,000 copies sold. His has also recently released two other books, TREK and The Book of Probes
with Marshall McLuhan. Lauded for his innovative magazine design and experimental and award winning
typographic design, Carson has today branched out into the medium of film and television as a director. To
date, he has collaborated with William Burroughs on his film, "The End of Print" and with Harvard Professor
John Kao on a documentary entitled, " The Art and Discipline of Creativity." Carson has also exhibited his
works worldwide, spoken at over 100 professional symposiums, lectures at various universities and colleges,
and teaches a workshop at the School of Visual Arts New York each summer. Currently, apart from being
the principal and chief designer of David Carson Design, Inc, Carson also serves as Creative Director for the
Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston. Newsweek has proclaimed that Carson, "changed the public face of
graphic design". Creative Review magazine has also called Carson, "the most famous graphic designer on
the planet"
